ASSAM
In Assam, Guwahati, the gateway of North East India is known since ancient times as
"Pragjyotishpur". It is situated on the bank of the mighty river Brahmaputra (i.e. son of Brahma), the only river with masculine name in India. The Kamakhya temple located in the city is one of the 51 Saktipeeth in the country.
Umananda island is Brahmaputra is believed to be the world's smallest human inhabited river island.
Hazo near Guwahati is interesting place where one can find the shrines of three different faith namely Hindu, Muslim & Buddhist co-existing peaceful down the age.
The Kaziranga National Park known for its one-horned Rhino is a world's heritage site and pride of North East India.
Majuli Island is the world's largest riverine island, where the unique Satras (Vaishnava Monasteries) has preserved the Satriya dance and culture in traditional way.
The Satriya Dance - unlike some of the classical Indian Dance tradition is very much an enduring tradition in the Satra Institution since 15th centuries.
MEGHALAYA
In Meghalaya, Shillong, one of the finest hill stations in India is only a short drive away from Guwahati. Cherrapunji, the heaviest rainfall area in the world is situated near Shillong.
In Meghalaya the khasis, Jayantias and Garo tribes follow the Matrimonial System of society. The Hynniewtrep (khasis, Jaintias, Bhois, Wars) people are known to be the earliest ethnic groups of settlers in the Indian Sub-continent.
A botanical wonder, Pitcher plant and insect eating plant is found in Meghalaya. Entomological Museum (Butterfly Museum) in only known museum in India devoted to moths and butterflies.
Shillong Golf course is considered as one of the best in India.
ARUNACHAL PRADESH
In Arunachal Pradesh, Tawang nestled amidst the clouds is famous for its scenic splendor. It is famous for the 400 years old Buddhist monastery
The Namdapha National park in Arunachal Pradesh is the only Park in the world to have the four feline species namely the tigers. Leopards, snow leopards and clouded leopards.
50% of orchids species of India are found only in Arunachal Pradesh.
This is the only state in India without a jail.
NAGALAND
In Nagaland the state capital Kohima is beautiful town known to the world for the halting the Japanese force during the 2nd World War. There lies the War Cemetry with beautiful epitaph engrual on each graves of soldiers
In Nagaland 'Cathedral' is the largest cathedral in the whole N.E. region.
Tapfu peak boasts of having the tallest Rhodedendron measuring over 130ft in height and the girth of around 11ft. The tree is featured in the Guiness Book of World Records.
MIZORAM
Mizoram is one of the two states in India with highest literacy rate. The state has thick bamboo forests. Mizos are very found of music, singing and dancing. The most popular dance of the Mizos is the Cheraw (Bamboo dance).
TRIPURA
Tripura is the second most populous state in the N.E. India. Almost 2/3 rd of the state is under forest cover. There are four sanctuaries in the state namely Row, Sepahijala, Trisha & Gumti. The crab-eating mongoose, which was last sighted about 72 years ago in India, can be seen at the Sepahijala Wildlife Sanctuary.
Neermahal Palace in the Rudrasagar lake is the only lake Palace in the N.E. Region.
Maharaja Bir Bikram Manikya (1923-47), did much to modernize his state. Both Sachin Dev Barman & Rahul Dev Barman, scion of the Tripura Royal family are well known personalities who revolutionized the Hindi music industry in Mumbai.
MANIPUR
Manipur is distinctly identified to the world by its own art forms and famous classical Manipuri Dance.
Sagol Kangjel, the mother of the modern Polo can be traced back to he 13th century. The British learned the game of Sagol Kangjel from Manipur and after refinemet, it was named as 'Polo'.
Manipur Zoological Park is a place to see the graceful brown dancing deer, the Sangai, one of the rarest species in the world. Loklak is the largest fresh water lake in the N.E. India.
